Hi! I'd like to use a post-install trigger to automatically resize the hierarchy window upon opening config views. I tried using the following in my .cdsinit: deRegUserTtriggers("config" nil nil 'my_resizing_procedure) but this doesn't work (the procedure itself seems working fine when called explicitly). Forum Post: Punch holes in ROD object
I have a ROD object, metal filled with contacts. I need to take this ROD object and ouch holes, evenly spaced through the middle of this shape. The hole should remove the metal, and any contacts whcih overlap the hole. Forum Post: Annotations are just way too overpowering
I often stare at schematics for hours looking for the cause or solution to some very subtle issue and it is helpful to see some simulation annotations in the process. My issue is that turning on annotations produces an utterly overwhelming amount of clutter (including vast amounts of overlapping text and redundant information) and it's just too much for my feeble brain to take in while I'm keeping my concentration focused on the schematic itself. I know you can turn on and off "clusters" of information, but in my entire career I've *never* needed/wanted to see the full spread of voltages or parameters for *every* *single* component in my schematic. For node voltages, I'd be delighted if only the net labels I placed on wires/nodes that I cared about lit up with their voltages beside them. Can this be done? Also, is there a way to create something like a note that I can place anywhere on the schematic whose contents can evaluate to stuff based on simulation results e.g. the current temperature and sum of the drain currents of mn1, mn2?

OK, time for me to eat some humble pie :-/. It turns out there is considerable control available over what annotations can/can't be displayed (via the View -> Annotations -> Setup... menu). I formally withdraw the first paragraph of my post and accuse myself of ignorance and violating the law of RTFM (just beating Andrew to the punch here). Sorry about that :-(. That being said, I really wouldn't mind knowing if there are viable answers to the thoughts in my 2nd paragraph...

It's more of a case of NQGTPOTMY than RTFM (Not Quite Got To That Part Of The Manual Yet) ;-) Unfortunately the second part can't be done currently. Interestingly I was only discussing this in a meeting a week or so back, but it's the kind of thing I'd like to see in the future - control of annotation of other quantities (I'd like to add things like noise contributions, distortion contributions, the value of the 2nd harmonic from a PSS result etc). CCR 1096295 is for the harmonic balance idea, CCR 631948 for annotating noise contributors (also talks about the more general request). So might be worth contacting customer support and asking for a duplicate to one or other of these... Regards, Andrew

Hey all, I've been tasked with replacing a 30 pin connector on our boards, with a new one after the old one was declared obsolete. I've updated the schematic by altering the old connector and saving/update/replace cache. When I try to create the netlist to bring the changes to pcd editor, I am met with an error. Hi Jorge, This won't work, unfortunately. The Hierarchy Editor is not a "de" (Design Editor") application. You can tell that because when the Hierarchy Editor is the current window, using deGetViewType(hiGetCurrentWindow()) returns "unknown". There's an application registered mostly to support the customisation in the schematic window when configured, but primarily that is done via a plugin nowadays. I filed an enhancement a number of years back to support a way of customising the UI (which I guess could be used to resize the window, I've not tried). Support for this was added in IC618 and ICADVM181. It's done via the SKILL function hedRegUICustomFunc which is documented in the Virtuoso Hierarchy Editor User Guide ( /doc/cdshiereditor/cdshiereditor.pdf) in Appendix B. A simpler solution would probably be just to do: envSetVal("hed.display" "width" 'int 1000) envSetVal("hed.display" "height" 'int 600) envSetVal("hed.display" "x" 'int 400) envSetVal("hed.display" "y" 'int 100) With whatever numbers you want (I just picked a few to fit my screen - adjust to suit your own needs). The way they market it is confusing. Getting them to explain what you get and don't get is interesting. I can say the documentation is merged. Allegro-L is no more, but it was a cheaper Concept HDL license with layout back when I started in 2010 (16.3). Orcad Professional does not have Mechanical IDX, Design For Assembly DRCs (squishy circles), Concept Schematics isn't included and the CIS option really is an option. Almost forgot the amazing Flow Planner in Allegro is not included in Orcad. I have PA-3100 Allegro and I am wondering if there are new features to Orcad Professional that aren't destined for Allegro.

So these are just warnings and the netlist files are created, the warnings relate to the device name being renamed to match the device name limit you have set. There are also warnings about signal models not being found but unless you are doing SI analysis on the pcb this shouldn't be an issue. The actual issue you have to resolve is that the PCB Footprint called 30PINCONNECTOR is not found in your library paths. Make sure that the 30PINCONNECTOR .dra and 30PINCONNECTOR .psm are available in the psmpath location. If you need to configure this look at: orcad.co.uk/.../Defining_padpath_psmpath.pdf

Hi Will, There are some capability within QuickView (the k2_viewer program in the PVS stream), including an ASCII dump of GDS - see QuickView 015 ASCII Import/Export . However, this only appears to be available through the UI and none of the batch programs dump out the modification date from the BGNSTR record. Of course, you could write your own using C code (I've done similar things in the past, but never to dump out the modification date from each structure). So I don't think there's a Cadence utility or script to do such a thing. Hi Andrew, Couldn't find a way to open a new thread, so decided to just reply to a most relevant post. Hope that my question finds you. I'm trying to make a bindkey that would cycle through a sequence of actions as following: First hit: AnnotationSlider->annDCOpPoint->checked=t Second hit: AnnotationSlider->annmodel->checked=t Third hit: AnnotationSlider->annparameter->checked=t Fourth hit: back to first hit... and round and round... I'm not experienced with SKILL, so can't come up with a way to implement it. Could you please point me in the right direction. Thanks.
